Belfast City Hall
County Antrim

Photographic study of Belfast City Hall 2007.

The City Hall Belfast was completed in 1906 and is built mainly from Portland stone and is in the Baroque Revival style. The building of the Belfast City Hall marked the award of city status by Queen Victoria.

At the turn of the 20th century Belfast was rapidly expanding with the growth of linen, rope making, ship building and engineering industries. The City Hall occupies the site of the White Linen Hall. This was a focal point for the linen quarter. It was the money from these thriving industries that was used to fund the building of the City Hall.
